The celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti begins with the Akhand Path, a 48-hour uninterrupted reading of the Guru Granth Sahib. This is conducted in gurdwaras and marks the spiritual beginning of the festival.
Procession and Kirtans:
A day before Gurpurab, a procession known as Nagar Kirtan is held. Led by the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones), the procession includes singing of hymns and performances of traditional martial arts called Gatka.
Langar:
On the day of the festival, langar (community meal) is organized in gurdwaras, where people from all walks of life are invited to share a meal, reflecting Guru Nanak’s message of equality and community service.
