Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was an Indian freedom fighter who is remembered as one of the most prominent leaders in the Indian independence movement. He was born in Cuttack, Orissa on 23rd January 1897. He was the ninth child of Janakinath Bose, an advocate by profession, and Prabhavati Devi, a religious and pious lady.
Subhash Chandra Bose was educated at the Protestant European School, the Ravenshaw Collegiate School, and the Presidency College, Calcutta. He was a brilliant student and was influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
Subhash Chandra Bose joined the Indian National Congress in 1919 and became its president in 1938. He was a strong believer in the concept of ‘Swaraj’ or self-governance, and advocated for the complete independence of India. He was a proponent of militant action against the British Raj and formed the Indian National Army (INA) for the same purpose.
Subhash Chandra Bose was a charismatic leader and was known for his inspirational and powerful speeches. He was famously called ‘Netaji’ by his supporters and followers. He is also remembered for his patriotic slogans such as ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Delhi Chalo’.
